Anuradha Kannan – Director

Anuradha Kannan, Executive Director of Nibbana is a woman who dons many hats. Anuradha is a psychotherapist, a trainer, coach and an organizational change facilitator with a wide range of professional experience spanning three decades. A former manager of a multinational bank, Anuradha felt naturally drawn to the field of mental health services when she desired to switch careers. Now as a psychotherapist, Anuradha works with individuals, couples and groups; as a trainer designs and teaches professional programs offered at Nibbana; and as an Organizational Change Facilitator coaches individuals and facilitates a coaching culture between leaders and their teams. Anuradha, a postgraduate in psychology, is extensively trained in and is at home using NLP, Gestalt, CBT, Hypnosis, Family Constellation, Enneagram and Transactional Analysis in her practice. She is the editor of the book Guided Journey of a Caterpillar authored by A.Geethan. Along with Geethan, she has designed NICCS as a unique course that integrates theory, application, internship and supervision for aspiring counsellors.

Anuradha is a much sought after psychotherapist in Chennai and she is especially skilled in her interventions that allow her clients to negotiate and reframe their beliefs for a healthier life. However what is really close to her heart is applying her knowledge and experience to enable women emotionally, mentally and financially from all cross sections of society. She has worked diligently to make Nibbana Counselling and Psychotherapy Centre a safe place for women by establishing a code of practice that is empathic, ethical and empowering for women without losing sight of their cultural sensitivities, social contexts and inter family dynamics. The safe non-judgemental, non-advice giving, empathic client centered counseling has enabled scores of women to find their voice, validate their narrative and carry the empowering experience forward to nurture personal goals and a functional family.

Her knack of directive counselling is in resonance/mirroring the client’s need for change. Added to this is her ability to reframe context where the client can find healthier options within the same context. While counselling is a serious issue, her wit and humour make the client feel lighter and increase their ability to look at their conflicts with an objective view which helps them evolve solutions.

A dedicated learner and a voracious reader, Anuradha has made continual learning and staying updated on developments in the field of mental health mandatory and an ethic for practicing counselors at Nibbana. Anuradha balances her time between training, teaching and counseling activities.
