Comsultant Educator
Consultant Educator, with 32 years in diverse areas of education. Started as a volunteer in Vidya Sagar, inspired – went on to do a PG Diploma in Special Education. Worked in Vidya Sagar for twelve years in various positions, predominantly as a coordinator for the PG Diploma course in Special Education for the Neurologically Impaired. Explored Inclusion as a process, for three years working with the management and teachers of a rural school near Madurai. This was followed by working as an advisor in rural and urban mainstream schools in promoting a differentiated curriculum. Continues to be intensely involved in the community based rehabilitation, assessments and referrals.
In the year 2000, started lecturing and consulting for multiple NGO’s in Tamil Nadu. Had a short stint in UAE, working on Conductive Education. Back in Chennai, started working on a project by IBM and Promise Foundation, promoting reading in private and Government schools. Worked as a coordinator for Chennai and Pondy reaching out to around 30 schools. During this period, compiled experiences in a Teacher Training Manual for capacity building in teachers, published by IBM.
Realising the importance of the need for mainstream schools to shift from traditional to progressive educational practices, started work with administrators for policies and capacity building in teachers, to create an optimal environment for all children. Currently supporting CBSC, ICSC, Cambridge and Matriculation schools in TN as an educational consultant/advisor.
Developed a Universal curriculum with KFI for practice in rural and government schools. Authored chapters in “Within Walls Without Boundaries” published by Sage Publications and “Best Inclusive Practices” by Seva in Action, Bangalore.
Have the honour of serving as a board member of Bala Mandir Research Foundation, Vidya Sagar and Chetna Education. I also serve on the board of Mirra Charitable Trust, as a Trustee. This organisation works for remedial education and parent empowerment.
